Break-ins in Midhurst spark community on alert

Three break-ins in Midhurst over just two weeks have put this normally quiet community right on edge, with the Huronia West OPP urgently searching for answers—and for suspects.

It all started on September 29 at about 7 p.m. when a home on St. Vincent Street in Springwater Township was hit. Not long after, on October 2 just before noon, another residence on Idlewood Drive was targeted. The streak continued on October 10, this time shortly before noon on Glenhuron Drive. The timing, locations, and method all ring familiar, and police believe the same group is responsible for this string of break-ins.

Surveillance footage has put faces and a vehicle to these crimes. The suspects—two men in dark sweaters and track pants, and a woman in a long, light coat and a hat—were seen arriving in a light-coloured Nissan sedan. That sort of detail sticks in folks’ minds, and investigators from Huronia West OPP are banking on the public’s help to crack the case wide open.

Beyond the hunt for suspects, the police have a clear message for the community: stop making it easy for the crooks. Lock your doors and windows, think about installing a security system if you haven’t already, and keep an eye out for anything or anyone that seems off. As the OPP said in their release, “These simple measures can significantly reduce the risk of break-and-enter incidents.”

There’s no sugar-coating it: these incidents have left a mark on Midhurst, bumping up anxiety and pushing neighbours to look out for each other a little more. The call now is for residents to stay sharp and share any information—no detail is too small, and it could make all the difference.

Anyone with leads or footage is urged to contact the Huronia West OPP or Crime Stoppers. It’s going to take teamwork, vigilance, and a solid backbone from the community to put an end to these break-ins and get back that sense of safety folks in Midhurst have always taken pride in.
