CanadaOne Auto’s $1M lifts RVH mental health care

Under the bright lights of Boots & Hearts Barn Burner, a symbolic cheque changed hands—and with it, the future of healthcare in Barrie.

On August 8, 2025, the crowd at the annual hockey game witnessed more than friendly rivalry. CanadaOne Auto delivered the first installment of a $1 million pledge to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH)’s Keep Life Wild campaign. The five-year commitment, made visible through a public presentation, signalled a turning point for local healthcare investment.

This donation arrives as RVH embarks on a $100-million fundraising campaign to expand and modernize its services, with special focus on mental health. CanadaOne Auto’s support is earmarked for the hospital’s regional mental health program. The expansion promises more inpatient capacity, improved outpatient care, and thoughtfully designed spaces that foster dignity and recovery—answers to long-standing calls for better support across Simcoe Muskoka.

Gail Hunt, RVH president and CEO, called the move “a bold step forward,” crediting the gift with sending a clear message: “mental health matters.” In a region where crowded hallways and long waits have too often been the norm, the pledge aims to close gaps and keep patients from travelling far for care. Each year, $200,000 will flow into the campaign, creating momentum and stability for the ambitious project.

But this act isn’t just about dollars raised—it’s a testament to the power of local philanthropy. CanadaOne Auto’s decision places it among a growing group of community champions, all working to ensure that world-class care is available close to home. For families, patients, and healthcare staff, the promise is simple: better care, less waiting, and renewed hope for the future.

The next chapter is still being written, but the message is already clear. When a community steps up, everyone stands to benefit.
