Three arrested after wild police pursuit in Barrie

At 4:00 a.m., when most of Barrie was tucked in for the night, the city’s quiet broke under the wail of sirens and the roar of engines. What started as a routine police response soon spiralled into a scene more familiar to television crime dramas than a sleepy Ontario neighbourhood.

Officers were summoned to a business near Ardagh Road and Mapleton Avenue as dawn lingered just out of reach. There, three men from Brampton—aged 25, 28, and 37—emerged from the shadows, spotted by police as they tried to slip away from a suspected break and enter. Their plan for a clean getaway evaporated in a flurry of flashing lights.

The suspects bolted in a waiting vehicle, colliding with a police cruiser and coming perilously close to striking two more. In those frantic moments, the chase surged through city streets, finally culminating in a crash off Highway 400. The impact left the suspects scrambling on foot, hoping anonymity would be their last defence. Barrie police moved swiftly, apprehending all three before the sun could rise on their freedom.

Charges quickly mounted. Break and enter, theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, disguise with intent—each count piling on as officers pieced together the night’s events. The 37-year-old and 28-year-old now face additional counts of dangerous driving and fleeing police. All three are also accused of violating previous release or probation orders, painting a picture of repeat entanglement with the law.

Inside the seized vehicle, investigators discovered Canadian currency and products suspected stolen from the targeted business. One suspect, the youngest of the trio, required brief hospital care for minor injuries before returning to custody. As of this writing, all three men remain behind bars awaiting a bail hearing, their fate yet undetermined.

For Barrie residents, the chase left a wake of unease—a reminder that even at the quietest hours, the city’s pulse can skip a beat. Still, the swift response of local officers stands as a testament to vigilance and community resilience, ensuring that, for now, the city can sleep a little more soundly.
